Hate Crimes Continue in L.A. County

In recent months Los Angeles County has seen a number of hate crimes ranging from destructive vandalism to violent assaults. NBC Los Angeles reports that a home in the 2000 block of Midwickhill Drive in Alhambra was severely vandalized. Responding to a residential burglary report, police found racial slurs spray painted throughout the home and extensive property damage, including food dumped on floors, cabinets and televisions broken and bleach and vinegar poured out in several place. Innocent Man Freed After 34 Years in Prison

A man who spent 34 years in jail for murder had his sentence overturned when a Los Angeles judge agreed he did not commit the crime. CBS Los Angeles reports Kash Delano Register (53) became a free man in downtown Los Angeles at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility after being transported from the Northern California jail where he spent more than three decades. The judge hearing Register’s retrial overturned the conviction on Thursday and by Friday afternoon, he was released. Double Murder Charges against CA Teen Dropped

A Compton teen held in a capital murder case has been released after a last-minute discovery of new evidence. Charges against him have been dismissed. NBC Los Angeles reports that Justin Marquis Scott (19) had been charged with capital murder and attempted murder in an Oct. 8 homicide in Inglewood. Scott’s ex-girlfriend and the grandmother of her then-current boyfriend were shot to death.
