More than 50 convicted sex offenders were arrested in Los Angeles and other Southern California counties on Halloween night. The arrests were part of a statewide Halloween parole operation called “Operation Boo” that netted child porn, drugs and weapons.

The California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) implemented Operation Boo to protect children against sexual predators on Halloween. Parolees were given the following orders:

  • Curfew from 5 p.m. – 5 a.m.
  • All exterior lights on their houses need to be off so it would look as though no one is home
  • No decorations on their houses allowed
  • No offering Halloween candy

Parolees were also instructed not to open the door for anyone, except for law enforcement and parole agents who were checking to make sure they were compliant. More than 50 people were arrested for violating Operation Boo in Los Angeles and other Southern California counties. Parole officers conducted more than 1,200 searches and made more than 80 arrests statewide.
